Weight Restrictions on Roads

Cracked road

Cordillera has initiated weight restrictions on Metro District roads that limit trucks to 12,000 pounds per axle versus the normal highway restriction of 18,000 pounds per axle.

When the average daily temperatures increase, the ground beneath the roads begins to thaw and become unstable. The weight of large trucks and equipment can damage the asphalt.

When the restriction is in effect, no over-weight (12,000+ per axle) vehicle will be allowed in the community, with the exception of fire trucks, Metro District trucks and residential trash trucks.  The restrictions include moving and delivery vans and homowners are advised to schedule deliveries for later in the spring; homeowners or contractors will not be granted exceptions.

The implementation and duration of these restrictions are determined by the average daily temperatures, therefore, it is difficult to say when exactly the restrictions will start or end. Public Safety understands this is an inconvenience and will lift the restriction as soon as possible.

Property owners or contractors with questions are encouraged to contact Joanne Kelley at 970-569-6251.
