Early summer is a vulnerable time for elk calves in the first stages of their lives; seasonal trail closures during these critical months give young wildlife the space and time needed to mature to increase their chances of survival. Closed trails in Cordillera include:
- Get-A-Long- Timbers Trail Loop- Parts of Red Draw LoopIn accordance with Colorado Department of Parks and Wildlife regulations, Cordillera Community Operations has temporarily closed the trails for wildlife protection until June 30.Hiking, dog walking and mountain biking, as well as all other uses are prohibited during the closure. Please use alternate trails until these seasonal closures are lifted.In addition, the Forest Service reminds the public that seasonal trail closures are in effect on several popular Forest Service trails adjacent to Vail and Avon. These closures are in place to protect elk calving areas and mule deer migration stopover areas.
