Rules for pets in Cordillera reflect agreements between Cordillera, Colorado Parks and Wildlife and Eagle County, and are designed to keep pets and wildlife safe. Only owners and guests of owners are allowed to bring pets into the Community; contractors and service providers with dogs are prohibited from entering, even if the animal is intended to be kept inside a vehicle. Dogs must be on a leash at all times on properties owned by the Cordillera Metropolitan District, which includes all road right of ways and open space tracts. The exception is the Dog Park above the Maintenance Facility on Carterville Road where dogs can run free inside a fenced enclosure.
Placing pet or bird food outdoors is prohibited in Cordillera as it could attract wildlife. Bears are a particular concern in this regard. The CPOA should be consulted regarding other pet rules and restrictions that apply to pet ownership on private properties.
